... than this is a book for you. Emphasis on it being a "contemporary romance". You know, like in the 2000s not the Dark Ages. If you're an old biddy who gets offended by language & realistic intimacy, miss this and go back to your Little House on the Prairie. And maybe don't write a review that has nothing to do with the excellent book and everything to do with your elderly, basic as vanilla sensibilities.I loved this juicy little friends-to-lovers and I am always excited to read a romance book penned by a Black female author. A sexy summer beach read! It’s been a long time since I purposely read a romance title and if “The Mixtape” is a representation of what they have become, it will be a long time before I try again. My only positive comment is that author, Brittainy Cherry, did try to offer warnings to her readers with an Author’s Note page prior to the start of the book. It mentions substance & verbal abuse, depression and rape as possible topics that will be problematic for sensitive readers. What she failed to advise is that the language is ATROCIOUS - there are enough f-bombs to blow up a large library. It’s gratuitous and offensive.Dual POV’s are used to tell the story and each chapter is headed with the character’s name. Often there are two in a row from the same person which actually works to give some flow to the story.
